1. Our 100% Zakat Commitment

The Diabetes Centre (TDC) operates under a strict, uncompromised 100% Zakat Policy. We recognize that Zakat is an obligatory religious pillar ordained to support the poor, vulnerable, and destitute.

When you specify your donation as Zakat, every single penny (£1 for every £1 given) is spent entirely on the direct medical care and vital treatment of eligible diabetic patients. No administrative fees, marketing costs, fundraising overheads, or institutional salaries are ever deducted from Zakat contributions. All operational costs are funded independently through dedicated non-Zakat donations and commercial gift aid supplements.

2. Fund Segregation & Financial Security

To ensure total transparency, Zakat funds are deposited into an independent, segregated Shariah-compliant bank account:

  • No Commingling of Funds: Zakat capital is strictly kept isolated from general donations, Sadaqah Jariyah, and operational reserves.
  • Designated Ledger Codes: Every incoming Zakat payment is assigned an automated internal tracking reference that links it directly to patient healthcare disbursements.
  • No Speculative Investment: Zakat funds are never placed in speculative investment schemes; they are actively deployed for urgent patient medical treatment.

3. Beneficiary Verification & Shariah Criteria (Nisab Assessment)

In compliance with the Quranic injunctions outlining the eligible recipients of Zakat (Surah At-Tawbah 9:60), TDC provides Zakat-funded care exclusively to individuals who qualify under the categories of the poor (Al-Fuqara) and the needy (Al-Masakin):

The Welfare Vetting Process:

  1. Social & Financial Investigation: Our Hospital Welfare Committee verifies total household income, dependent family members, living conditions, and net assets against current Nisab thresholds.
  2. Medical Necessity Check: Hospital doctors confirm the diagnosis of diabetes or related secondary complications (retinopathy, foot ulcers, nephropathy) and certify the essential treatment plan.
  3. Formal Certification: Eligible applicants are approved for 100% subsidized medical care funded directly through the Zakat pool.

4. The Principle of Tamleek (Complete Ownership)

Islamic jurisprudence requires that the recipient of Zakat takes full ownership (Tamleek) of the benefit. TDC adheres to this standard through:

  • Medicines & Supplies: Insulin vials, syringes, glucose testing meters, and lancets become the complete personal property of the verified patient.
  • Surgical & Clinical Interventions: Procedures such as diabetic limb salvage debridement, retinal laser photocoagulation, and hemodialysis are procured specifically on behalf of the registered patient as their direct personal medical entitlement.
  • Specialized Orthotics: Custom pressure-relieving diabetic footwear and offloading insoles are individually crafted and given permanently to patients to prevent amputation.
